YarnYenta's Contest

Heatherly, A.K.A. Yarn Yenta or the best SP9 hostess ever!, is holding a contest in honor of tali's birthday.

1. Where is your favorite knitting spot?
Anywhere?!?!? Really my favorite place is in my perty red chair. love it.

2. If you suddenly could never knit again (shudder) - what would you do instead?
Could that happen?! No. I won't have it. Can't think about it. Maybe I would take up.....well...I guess I would embroider. no, too little. crosstitch...definitely not... maybe i would weave or spin....yep that sounds more like it.

3. If you could travel anywhere in the world - where would you go and why?
Today I think I would go to the southern part of India. I had a conversation with a colleague today who grew up there....and I'm sold.

4. When you were little - What did you want to do "when you grew up?" Are you doing it?
When I was little I wanted to be a college professor...and yes, I guess I am. I'm on faculty as a librarian at a private university.

5. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Sorry kids. Don't like ice cream. But sorbet, oh hunney...raspberry hands down.

WIPs vs. UFOs

First off for those of you non-knitters, here is a little knitter lingo. WIP= Works in Progress. UFO= UnFinished Object....wait...is that right? Anyway.

A question I have been pondering over for a while is: when does a WIP turn into a UFO? Is there a designated time allotment? Six months? A year? two? Is it an intentional decision of not touching a specific knit ever again due to knit-induced-stress/anxiety/or sheer boredom? How do you know when you have a WIP that has become an UFO???

Obviously, this question is due to my piles of works in progress. Now, really, I fully intend on finishing them all. There are none that I despise...well, that is not really the truth. There is this sweater that I am not actively knitting for my mom that is like pulling teeth to finish. It's short sleeved and I almost have the front and back completed....so I know that there is not a lot of time left on it...i....just....can't....do ....it. But, otherwise, there is a long sleeved sweater that I started last winter and put on the shelf when it turned too unbareably hot to wear or think about finishing to wear. It intentionally has a fall knit spot on the shelf. So is it a WIP? or is it a UFO? It's been almost a year since I touched it. . .

Please dear readers, what do you think? When does a WIP become an UFO?

Mittens!!!

I just received a great package from Kimberly for the Mittens! Mittens! Mittens! swap. They are beautiful fingerless gloves...seeing that I live in Southern California the full mitten was not so essential...or practical. Check'em out!
